Health Brief
The sun…our friend…our enemy!
With winter over, we are all happy to have the warm rays of the sun back! The sun has numerous benefits: it encourages the uptake of Vitamin D, helpful for the calcification of our bones; it stimulates morale and reduces the risks of depression. On the other hand, during prolonged exposure, it presents a significant danger. It can lead to heat stroke, which is particularly dangerous for infants and seniors. Over exposure burns the skin. These « sun burns » contribute to the premature aging of the skin and can lead to skin cancer. Finally, the sun doesn’t spare the eyes. UV rays are responsible for cataracts, and are the leading cause of cataracts in the world.
To take full advantage of sunny days, here are some recommendations from your Plexo health expert:
- Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, especially between 11 o’clock and 4 o’clock;
- Use a sunscreen with a SPF of at least 30, 20 minutes before going outside. Don’t forget to reapply the cream after 2-3 hours;
- Wear clothing, including a hat or cap, which gives extra protection;
- Wear sunglasses at all times;
- Drink a minimum of 1.5 litres of water per day;
- Avoid drinking excess alcohol.
And completely enjoy your summer!
